A summit meeting is a high-level conference that brings together thought leaders and industry experts to discuss important issues in their field. Attendees are typically in a leadership position in their field, such as doctors or surgeons, company executives, and government representatives. These events can provide valuable insights to attendees, but they must be carefully planned and well executed in order to maximize their value.

To ensure that a summit is beneficial, it is important to connect the learnings and networking opportunities with your organisation’s goals. Identify the key challenges you are facing in your leadership role and consider how the summit’s knowledge can help you tackle them. It is also helpful to build an accountability network of fellow leaders who can support you in your efforts and hold you accountable for executing the action items you will take away from the event.

During the Miami Summit, it was decided to continue working towards creating the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA) and other agreements that would bring concrete results for governments in the region. A multilateral Summit follow-up mechanism called the Summit Implementation Review Group was established to carry out this work. This group, which consists of representatives from the 34 Summit of the Americas nations, is coordinated by the Organization of American States.

To facilitate the implementation of Summit mandates, a number of international organisations have been designated as Responsible Coordinators. These organisations will coordinate activities and responsibilities for their respective areas of expertise. A list of these organizations, along with their contact information, can be found here.
