When a baseball pitcher throws the ball and it hits the air (or more specifically, the general vicinity of home plate), it starts to break laterally in the direction of the strike zone. This is referred to as late-breaking.

In an effort to promote and highlight new and important research that may not have been available by the MSMilan2023 General Abstract submission deadline, SfN will accept a limited number of late-breaking abstracts for presentation at the congress. These abstracts will be presented in late-breaking sessions and may also be presented as paper or virtual posters.

Unlike scientific and Theme K abstracts, late-breaking abstracts must be original and not previously published or submitted to another meeting at the time of submission. Additionally, late-breaking abstracts cannot contain data that has been publicly disclosed in any online or PubMed indexed venue prior to the MSMilan2023 meeting.

The presenting author of each late-breaking abstract must be registered for the corresponding MSMilan2023 event. If a member is the presenting author on two late-breaking abstracts, one must be withdrawn. In addition, co-authors included on an abstract’s author block must be SfN members with a free My SfN account to ensure consistent formatting and accuracy for listing in the author index and itinerary planner.
